Disney Wants More “Lokis”

After the massive viewership of WandaVision and the consistent if uneven viewership of Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Disney is very happy with the success of Loki. And if Disney knows how to do one thing, it’s keep giving people the thing they want forever and ever. In fact, this week a leaked email from Kevin Feige to the Disney Board of Directors shows that villain stories are going to be a huge push for Disney going forward. Check out the email below:

TO: Disney Board of Directions

SUBJECT: RE: Loki Success, Future Projects.

Dear Board of Directors,

Thank you so much for your kind words about the launch of Loki. Mike [Michael Waldron, head writer] and Kate [Kate Herron, Director/producer of the first season] have done a fantastic job, and audiences are responding even more positively than I could have hoped.

When you say it’s “time” to start thinking about future projects (fun wordplay!) to capitalize on the “sympathetic villain” character, I fully agree. As to your individual suggestions, there may be some difficulty.

I’ve made notes on some of the specific characters you’ve asked to be given the “Loki” treatment.

-Joker. We don’t own this character, Warner Brothers does. In fact, they’re pretty touchy about their comic book property, so I can’t see this moving forward without a multi-billion dollar acquisition.

-“Guy who Shot Spider-Man’s Uncle.” Again, we don’t own the Tom Holland Spider-Man, per se, so we would need to get a go ahead from Sony to start working up this concept. I also worry about name recognition for this character. The title card industry is in an uproar right now.

-Darth Vader. Now this one we DO own, but there’s actually already been three movies and a long-running animated series humanizing him. I can talk to Kathleen Kennedy over at Lucas Films, but I think we may have hit saturation on this concept (wow, that feels weird to say.)

-“That Bad Guy from the First Avengers?” This is a good news, bad news situation. Good news, that project is already going very well. Bad news, that’s Loki. I know, lots of movies, hard to keep track.

-“Hunter who shot Bambi’s Mom” We are three months into pre-production and things are going smoothly!

Hugs and Kisses,

Kevin Feige

Pretty cool to get a peek behind the curtain at what it’s like at Disney HQ, huh? I’m sure the HUNTER project will be a sound financial investment and big hit with the NRA. Remember to keep renewing those Disney Plus subscriptions!
