Back-to-School Post

It’s not long now until schools around the country are back in session for the 21-22 school year. I know that with COVID numbers starting to climb again and the emotional toll of the last year, this has got a lot of people on edge. So, to address those feelings, I’d just like to say:

YOU CAN IGNORE THE BACK-TO-SCHOOL SALES IN JULY, BUT NOW IT’S AUGUST AND THEY’RE EVERYWHERE. WHY?! IS THE $2 YOU CAN SAVE ON A BINDER REALLY WORTH THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DISTRESS?

LAST SCHOOL YEAR WAS ABOUT A THOUSAND YEARS LONG AND SUMMER LASTED A COUPLE DAYS, HOW ARE WE BACK TO THIS ALREADY? THESE LAST TWO SUMMERS DIDN’T EVEN REALLY COUNT; THEY WERE PANDEMIC SUMMERS! THAT’S LIKE GOING TO AN ACTUAL, EMPTY FIELD FOR A FIELD TRIP.

THIS IS NOT NORMAL. I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT NORMAL IS ANYMORE, BUT IT’S NOT WHATEVER HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THE PAST EIGHTEEN MONTHS, AND YOU JUST KNOW THAT HOWEVER WE START THE YEAR, THERE’S GOING TO BE A DELTA-VARIANT SHAKE-UP THREE WEEKS IN AND WE’RE GOING TO THROW EVERYTHING OUT THE WINDOW.  

THIS IS UNJUST, SOMEONE ALERT…WELL, NOT THE SCHOOL BOARDS OR POLITICIANS, THEY DON’T ACTUALLY CARE, BUT MAYBE SOME KIND OF HIGHER POWER. THE DEITY OF YOUR CHOICE! THE AVENGERS! SOMEONE! THIS JUST FEELS WRONG. I’M NOT CRAZY, RIGHT? THIS JUST FEELS WRONG. I CAN’T BE THE ONLY ONE FEELING THIS WAY. MY EMOTIONS HAVE BEEN IN CAPS-LOCK FOR DAYS AND MY ANXIETY HAS BEEN IN ITALICS.

In other news, I will be wearing all black for the first few weeks of school to mourn the passing of summer break, and also because it’s pretty much my aesthetic. Best of luck to everyone going back to the learning factory.
