I Have Had A Moment

I have to assume that every doctor in the world is constantly waiting for someone to shout, “Is anyone here a doctor? This man/woman/child/Operation Board Game Tournament needs help!”

I’m never going to be a doctor, but I had my version of this moment recently when someone made a reference to one of my all time favorite authors, but couldn’t remember the exact wording.

It was my time to shine. I leapt to my feet. I bolted to one of the bookshelves in my house that is so overloaded that the books are double stacked on each shelf. I grabbed my special edition hardbound copy of Guards, Guards! (the first Pratchett book I ever read) and found the exact line to quote.

My particular skills and resources will never be this relevant again, so I’m going to have to bask in this for a little while. But rest assured, if there’s ever a very specific quote-related emergency in my home, you can be darned sure that I will rise to the occasion and never let it go.
