Local Politician States, “I Don’t Care About Educators,” Praised for Honesty

All too often, politics is a matter of double-speak and subtext, with elected officials saying one thing, but doing another.

Which is why it’s made such a dazzling impact that a local politician has had the courage to stand up and say, “I don’t care about educators. They’re not vaccinated? There’s a pandemic going on? Send them back to school anyway.”

“It’s about time we had some honesty in politics! Way to go!” Tweeted a local woman who will continue to work from home for the foreseeable future.

Wait, what?” said local teacher advocacy group president, Sharon Smith.

The politician continued, “Science shows that schools CAN be re-opened safely if community spread is already limited, indoor sports are cancelled, class sizes are reduced, and the government limits activities that spread infection like in-door dining in restaurants. We’re not going to do any of that, but we are going to open schools, because science is only important to me as long as it agrees with my worldview, and more importantly, my poll numbers.”

“It’s so refreshing to have a politician tell it like it is,” says local man who doesn’t care if his child falls ill at school, so long as she is out of his home. “And honestly, if teachers wanted us to care about them, they should have gotten a real job. Like being a politician.”

Some teachers seem to have taken offense at the politician’s words, though a veteran teacher denies that this story is anything new.

“All this politician is doing is taking the subtext that we’ve all been living in and saying it out loud. You know, like, educators should not be paid a competitive wage, educators should be sacrificed at the altar of capitalism, and educators and school staff don’t make enough campaign contributions to be considered worthwhile. For years politicians have claimed to value educators while their actions showed the opposite. Finally, we have a politician who practices what he preaches.”

Some local businesses are supporting educators how they can, short of actually petitioning the politician to change his view. A local funeral home is now offering a 5% off educator discount for the funerals of school staff and their family affected by the choice.

Meanwhile, local politician’s poll numbers (and COVID-19 deaths) continue to rise.
