Art I’m Thankful For (2022)

For many reasons, this fall is a lot better than the past few I’ve seen, but there’s still a lot to cope with in the world. So once again, I’m going to drop a few pieces of art that have helped me through the worst this year had to throw at us.

Hades: When every screen feels like it’s got bad news waiting for you, it’s incredibly nice to have an escape that is just fun every single time. Hades is that kind of game, and like many other rogue-likes, every failure brings you closer to a future success. This game rules.

The Greenbone Saga: I reviewed the first book in the trilogy a little while back, but I marathoned these books for months, and I would call all sixty-some hours more than worth my time. I loved escaping into this series, and I hope more people do the same.

“A Thing on Strings” from Central Park: This song and the scene that accompany it emotionally wrecked me. But I’m glad they did. If you know the scene I’m talking about, you get it.

Dimension 20 A Starstruck Odyssey: Dimension 20 is CollegeHumor’s D&D show, and I’ve adored it for years. Of their dozen or so seasons, this is my favorite. It is wild, hilarious, cynical, uplifting, and deeply strange. The ball was rolling up on this one.

“The Oil Slick” by Frightened Rabbit: I don’t need to wait for Spotify Unwrapped to know what song I listened to most this year. It’s this one; it sounds like hope.

“Yarn Cat” by Calvin Sharpe: Dare I say the most important piece of art humanity produced this year? I do. I totally dare.
